Round 6 - done!

Chemo is officially done. I rang the bell on the way out the door and was very happy to say goodbye to those bags of medicine. I am still coughing and feeling pretty run down already but I must say there is something special about being done with this Phase.  I know the next few days will be tough as always but I'll push through and we will get stronger and stronger before Phase 2.

We have been trying to make plans and think about what all Phase 2 will entail... we have doctor appointments scheduled for prep-op instructions & decisions, an MRI scheduled to help with all that. I know there has been some questions about what our plans are. I'll give you the update we have.  We have decided to choose the best route to lower my risk of recurrence, obviously nothing is completely risk free because we never know what life will give us. Each day brings new challenges and things we must face. But I've chosen to do a bilateral mastectomy with immediate reconstruction using my own tissue. This is why the surgery is so long and will be difficult for recovery. Even though it's what some would call radical, I have an aggressive cancer, I have a genetic gene mutation that came up through testing that increases my risk. They are still learning about my specific gene mutation but the risk factor does increase. If I chose to do a lesser surgery I would be a higher risk factor and the tests I would have to continue for the rest of my life just is not the way I'd want to live life. And I believe strongly that God has brought us to this place with the best people for this time to do it this way. I'm at peace about this whole process, I won't say it's not scary at times but I also know that I can do it! And I'm not alone.  I also know that my desire is that this chapter of our life gets a closing point, I know it's not until the end of the year because we still have antibodies infusions every 3 weeks but one day it will be just a part of our story and not our only story.

Like always thank you for being in this chapter with us. Thankful for loving us, caring about us and thinking about and praying for us. We feel your love everyday and it's so uplifting to know you love us and we feel the same about you!
