Where I'm at right now...
Being able to see the end of the chemo rounds, we now have to start making plans for the next steps. When the oncologist said this to me, I will admit I panicked a little bit, more appointments... more decisions... more plans. But I stopped dragging my feet and made the appointments and started the process.
The next step is surgery. I don't really like surgery. Surgery means recovery and recovery means pain. I had a surgeon so now came the reconstruction talk and talking about what that would mean for me. There are A LOT of decisions we have to make at this point.
I had the first appointment with a plastic surgeon, he was very nice and knowledgeable but I left discouraged and I was sad. It wasn't what I wanted. So... praising God for incredible people in my life, I texted one of them who had offered to help if I needed it. I asked for help and she gave me the name of who she'd recommend (she is in the medical field and works closely with people who can help me). I called their office and was able to get an appointment quickly and saw the new plastic surgeon yesterday. And I'll just tell you I felt like God was walking with us through the whole process. I felt a peace and can I even say some excitement at the possibilities. I still have another appointment because this doctor will mean changing surgeons but I have an appointment with an incredible surgeon in a couple of weeks and we are starting to get a plan in place for the next steps. And that is a huge praise!
I will tell you that the next steps are scary, the surgery is long - like 8-12 hours long. The recovery is tough - 6 to 8 weeks. And then there is at least one other surgery after this process. But the end result is what I'm focusing on and it's exactly what I want.
If you'll pray with us that the next appointment confirms we can do what we've talked about and move forward in the planning and scheduling.
This song has been very meaningful to me... I feel like God has been in the fire with me through this journey.
