Doctor Update
We made it to the weekend... in our world right now that doesn’t really look much different than the week day. We are all home together, I guess the big difference is J doesn’t have to work, which is nice. We are all just trying to stay sane and still be intentional with spending time together. Overall we are doing really well.
Thursday was doctor day, we had appointments at two hospitals and I will tell you it’s a surreal place to walk into right now. Definitely had me praying more for all who has to work there each day. Everyone has masks on and gloves and there is check points. I appreciate the precautions. I was able to get both drains out so I’m drain free. YAY!! Those were definitely not a fun part of the process. Everything is looking great and I’m healing well so that is good news. We then had an appointment with my oncologist and she went over the pathology reports with us. We have heard the report before so she was just going over it again. She confirmed that the report came back clear. They were able to remove all the cancer. Praise God!! We also talked about what this means going forward. There is some discussion about what we should do about radiation, our oncologist is going to take my case to the board of physicians she works with and they are going to see if they all believe that radiation is a necessary step. I am praying that they come to the conclusion it’s not necessary! If you could pray with us on this. Obviously, I’ll do whatever is needed to make sure that we reduce my chances of recurrence. And I’m keeping an open mind on the decision to reduce my expectations or chances of disappointment.
We also decided to change the antibodies that I’m on. I will continue with antibody infusions until November, they occur every 3 weeks. These antibodies also reduce the chance of recurrence. We are going to use an antibody that does have a little bit of chemo in them. This antibody reduces the chance of the cells growing again. There aren’t a lot of side effects either so I’m happy with our choice to make this change. Every thing we do has it trade offs, I think it’s the one thing I’ve learned during this process. We do one thing but there is this that comes with it. It’s a give and take all along the journey of fighting cancer. It’s a lot of walking by faith.
