Post Surgery Update
We are on day 5 of post surgery and healing is slow but progressing. I will say that today has been emotional. And you’ll probably feel that through my words today. I knew going in to surgery that this was a big surgery and recovery would be hard. Having a bilateral mastectomy isn’t something you decide or choose lightly, we put lots of thought, prayers and pros and cons weighing as we made this decision. But as I sit here on the other side of things, my decision is still the one I’d make again but the emotional weight that comes with it is hard. It’s not something you can prepare for, there is grief and pain both physical and emotional and I’m dealing with handling all of those daily. Today has been a crying day. It’s very hard for me to feel broken and unable to do the things I’m used to doing.
I am able to move around but it is slow. I am learning how to take care of myself but it is slow. I am not used to relying on someone for everything. But that is exactly what I’m having to do, each day I’m trying to take back something so I can do it myself. I didn’t process how something as simple as washing my hands would need to be adjusted or require help. I’m figuring out how to adjust but for someone who likes to be in control and handle things for themselves this recovery is hard. I will say I’m blessed beyond measure to have a husband who is willing to do anything I need. He has been my rock. He has taken such incredible care of me and my heart is bursting with thankfulness and love for the man God designed him to be and the fact that he chose me do life with. I also am so thankful for my parents and kids, they have been great helpers as well. I am blessed beyond words for all the help surrounding us.
My doctor called today also and pathology came back, which was quicker than we expected. And Praise God, no cancer in the lymph nodes they took, and they removed the rest of the cancer and received clear margins. All of this is the news we have been praying for. It doesn’t change the path of radiation and delayed reconstruction but it is the news we were desiring. God knew the path, He is fulfilling His promises to us. Even though I have felt weak, I know that God’s grace is all I need, His power is getting us through the days that seem overwhelming. So today even though I’m filled with emotions and struggling a little more than I’d like but I’m thankful and turning my eyes to the positives that are surrounding us. I’m drawing on God’s grace.
Thank you for continuing to pray for us and for thinking of us during this time. Even though the road is long, knowing we have people surrounding us with prayers and good thoughts really does make the road seem less lonely. We love you! And appreciate each of you!
