Recovery - Week 3
I haven't been sure how much to update this. But it's been a couple of days and with everything else going on in the world. I figure I'll share how we are doing. I know some of us are starting to feel bored so this at least gives you something to read.
Surgery was three weeks ago yesterday. I have to keep counting because at times with everything going on I think it must have been 3 months ago but nope only 3 weeks. Every day I'm getting better. I know I keep saying that, but it's true at least.
I will tell you there has been a few things I haven't expected, like the arm & shoulder pain. I have physical therapy exercises I'm trying to do everyday to regain movement in my arms and shoulders and they hurt. I push until I feel the stretch, hold, and repeat. I do see improvements in how my arms & shoulders are feeling. Although at times my limitations frustrate me. I also didn't expect some of the numbness or tightness that I feel in my chest area. I told my surgeon when I saw him for my first followup some of the feelings I had. He told me that this phase will not be fun. I will not like it at all, but I have to remember it's temporary. Isn't that the truth for everything. Especially right now. It's all temporary. We don't know how long the actual temporary duration will be. But it's all temporary. The one constant is change. I have never really liked that statement although I can't think of a time where it applies more than now.
We are all home unless there is a necessary outing, mainly my doctor appointments. It feels like there is a lot of doctor appointments right now too. I stress out each time I have to go to the doctors. I'm a natural worrier, I have to spend a lot of time praying and getting out of my head to be ok with all that is going on. I will tell you I'm taking lots of precautions each time I have to go to a medical appointment. I'm so thankful for all the medical staff that is there during this time and treating me. I can not imagine the stress they are under. I am praying daily for those putting themselves on the front lines. Although, I also can't help to think of all the people that are daily dealing with sickness and health issues they have had before the Covid-19 hit our world and now we've up'd their stress and ability to handle their medical issues ten fold. I believe that walking by faith is more important now than ever before.
I keep trying to remind myself to look for the positives in all that is happening. To treasure the moments with my family. To look for the good in each moment. At times it's hard. I spend too much time on FaceBook or the news. I like to be informed of what is happening around us and the world but right now I think it might be time to limit some of the searching and just focus on what is right in front of me. I might enjoy living in a bubble a little more now more than ever before. Honestly, I probably continue to search for more information because I just can't live in a bubble. But overall this time at home has given me the opportunities I know I need. I'm taking time to reinvest in my kids. To dive back into homeschooling with a more hands on approach. Which is never a bad investment. And just take the moments as they come and doing my best to live moment by moment.
So... I've rambled a lot more than normal. Butt over here we are doing well. We are journeying along in the best way we know how. Walking by faith. Spending time together. Having the difficult discussions when needed. But mainly loving each other through whatever it is we are dealing with at that moment. We have always been a family that lays it all out, we don't sugar coat things, we talk and we are definitely doing that now.
Thanks for reading about our journey. We love you! We think of all our friends and family regularly and lift you up in prayer that we will all get through this stronger than when we started.
