Surgery day & next...
It’s early as a I sit here in the hospital the day after surgery reflecting on all that has gone on the last 24 hours. We got to the hospital at 5:30 AM. Had the opportunity to pray with my mom and dad and daughter & hubby, it was very special moment. I truly felt God’s peace about all that was going to be happening. We went back to pre-op and they started getting me ready for the moment. We were surrounded by great people! All the nurses, residences, doctors that we met and had around us we kind, amazing people. I am always amazed by them, it’s a job I know I could never do and I appreciate that they have been called to do it. It takes special people to work in the medical field.
Surgery went really well according to the reports I’ve gotten. All I remember is being told to go to my happy place... which I guess I did. The doctors seem very happy with the way things turned out and therefore I am also. Surgery was longer than they expected, about 6 hours so it was hard on the family, all the waiting. They did really well. I think it was about 2:30 before I finally got to see them. J is my rock and I’m so thankful for all he does for me.
Recovery started after I woke up from my happy place. I didn’t wake up with pain or nausea which I greatly appreciated. I really wasn’t even that sleepy, but I was loopy and talkative. I am sure I put on a great show - I don’t really remember a lot of. The hospital is completely full so I didn’t get a room, I got a “tent” area off of the pre-op area, no walls just drapes.. It has been fine but noisy. There are people and things going on all around us. J spent the night and my awesome nurse found him a recliner to sleep in which was nice, because I didn’t want him far from me. Overall, pain hasn’t been that bad. Most pain I feel is when I move too much. About 7 PM I was able to get out of bed, stand and even walk to my mom down the hall a little bit. I felt like a toddler taking her first steps to her mommy. Put a smile on my face and made me proud I could actually walk.
I’ve been resting as much as possible in the hospital, it’s been filled with one hour or so cat naps. I won’t say we are rested at all but we are doing pretty well considering all that has gone on these last 24 hours.
I’ll end with telling you how much your love means to us! I appreciated each text message, Facebook comment, thoughts, and prayers you have said for me and my family. We are truly blessed beyond words for your outpouring of support for us. So thank you! Know we love you and I’ll update more when I’m home.
