3 more...
Today starts the last week, 3 more time I have to go to radiation. 3 more... I keep counting. I keep saying the number but I will be honest. I don’t want to go anymore. I’m in pain. The radiation side effects have hit and hit hard. My skin is burnt and it hurts. A LOT! I’m doing everything I can to push through and manage the side effects. And some things are helping a little but there are moments I just want to sit down and have a nice long cry and be done. There is a bell at the end of each phase of treatment. You ring the bell when you are done to celebrate. Celebration is the not the feeling I have, but I do know that I will be relieved when this is phase is done.
I will continue to push through and thankfully my strength is not what I’m leaning on right now. I know Christ’s strength will get me through. Also, I want to take a moment and say what an incredible, amazing husband I have (this isn’t the first time I’ve said this and it probably won’t be the last). God knew what He was doing to put us together. J has amazing strength and loves me so well, I truly believe God uses J to provide some of that strength I need. I can’t imagine going through all this without him. It’s a blessing in so many ways. I’ve been cranky and crabby and really just a pain to live with the last few days but between him and the kids they have been great. I know it’s hard for the kids to watch me in pain and to see me go through this but boy do they rally and rally big! They have all helped out where they can. Between recovery, Covid-19 and radiation these last 12 weeks have been hard. This journey has changed our family in so many ways but I look at my family and am just proud. Proud for how they have grown. Cancer changes a family, but that change doesn’t have to be bad. It actually can be pretty amazing. I hope you hear my heart, it’s a hard change don’t get me wrong. And not the way I’d have chosen any day of the week for us to have to grown but it’s amazing all the same.
I did meet with the plastic surgeon last week also. We will have a 6 month break between radiation and the next surgery. He wants everything to heal and heal well. Because of where my cancer was it takes longer to heal. The things I’m learning every day.
Cancer is hard but I’m so thankful for the support system we have. The foundations of faith and love and closeness we have in our family is what continues to get me through these phases that are tough. I’m grateful today for the many blessings and even when things are tough that the blessings are what I must focus my mind on. Thank you for praying for us and for the support! We love & appreciate you!
